Indian stock markets on Wednesday opened marginally higher, reflecting global cues and a rally in US stock markets. Experts indicated that the Indian markets remain balanced amid the selling pressure from Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) and buying support from Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs). The Nifty 50 index on the National Stock Exchange began trading 0.19 percent higher, adding 45.40 points to reach 24,184.40 points. Similarly, the BSE Sensex climbed 109 points, or 0.14 percent, to an opening level of 79,065.22.
The top performers at the opening bell in the Nifty 50 included Titan, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Consumers, Dr. Reddy's, and HCL Tech. Meanwhile, BPCL, HDFC Bank, HDFC Life, Shri Ram Finance, and ONGC emerged as the top losers. 'In India, the pattern of FIIs selling on valuation concerns and DIIs buying supported by money flows remains evident. Defense-related stocks, which have surged ahead of fundamentals, are undergoing corrections. Financial stocks are pressured by rising deposit costs. For long-term investors, quality banking stocks present value,' stated V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.
Broad market indices on the NSE, such as the Nifty Small Cap 50, led with a rise of 0.49 percent, alongside gains in other indices. In sectoral indices, Nifty Realty led with an increase of 0.51 percent, while others also posted marginal gains. 'Market sentiment has turned bearish as the index fails to surpass the 21 EMA, indicating a negative near-term trend. Resistance is now noted at 24,250; failure to break this level may trigger a sell-on-rallies strategy. Conversely, if the Nifty dips below 24,000, further declines to 23,700 are possible,' commented Varun Aggarwal, MD at Profit Idea.
Several companies, including Hindustan Aeronautics, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Ola Electric Mobility, Glenmark Pharma, Reliance Power, KNR Constructions, Redtape, and Reliance Infrastructure, are set to report financial results today. In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 index fell by 0.21 percent to 36,155.26, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng slipped by 0.23 percent. Meanwhile, other Asian markets, such as Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted index, South Korea's KOSPI, and Jakarta Composite, experienced gains on Wednesday.
The US markets saw a significant rally on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones index surging over 1 percent, the S&P 500 rising by 1.68 percent, and the Nasdaq advancing by more than 2.4 percent.
