A passenger plane on a domestic flight in Thailand crashed shortly after taking off from Bangkok's main airport, resulting in the death of all nine people on board, the country's civil aviation authority confirmed Thursday.
The crash site, located in a mangrove swamp in Chachoengsao province, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the airport, yielded no survivors, according to Thai media reports. The deceased included five tourists from Hong Kong, two members of the Thai female crew, and the Thai pilot and co-pilot.
Rescue operations were hampered by difficult terrain and darkness, with rising tide waters complicating the search. The Civil Aviation Authority stated the turboprop Cessna Caravan C208B lost radio contact 11 minutes after departure from Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flight was on its way to Trat province, 275 kilometers southeast of Bangkok.
