Indian Railways Enhance Track Security After Sabarmati Express Derailment

Indian Railways has intensified track patrolling following the derailment of the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express in Jhansi Rail Division. Authorities are exploring AI-based solutions for around-the-clock security, and the Railway Board has issued instructions for continuous patrolling. Night patrolling is now being enforced despite existing regulatory and manpower challenges.

In the wake of the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express derailment, Indian Railways has ramped up track patrolling, especially between Kanpur and Bhimsen Junction in the Jhansi Rail Division. The derailment is suspected to have been caused by a rail chunk allegedly placed on the track by miscreants.

Officials are now exploring various Artificial Intelligence-based solutions to strengthen track security round the clock. Despite the established patrolling routines by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and track maintainers, vigilance has significantly increased following the incident.

However, reports highlight issues like inadequate manpower and the provisions in the Indian Railway Permanent Way Manual, which limit continuous night patrolling. Experts advocate for mandatory year-round night patrolling to ensure the safety of railway tracks.
