The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Commerce Ministry has announced plans to promote e-commerce export hubs (ECEH) in India. The hubs aim to aggregate fast-moving goods like textiles, handicrafts, and jewellery for export, leveraging strong sourcing networks, logistics, and warehousing support.
The DGFT is inviting proposals from companies with the capability to set up these hubs. The proposals will help finalize software requirements and expedite export clearances. Interested firms, including industry leaders like Shiprocket and DHL, are to be consulted via video conference in the coming days.
A pilot launch of 10-15 hubs is anticipated, focusing on reducing turnaround times, easing re-imports for returns, and consolidating various cross-border e-commerce activities. A successful implementation of ECEHs could elevate India's e-commerce exports from the current USD 5 billion to between USD 50-100 billion, contributing to India's target of USD 1 trillion in merchandise exports by 2030.
