In a significant move to tackle staffing shortages, the Railway Board has approved the re-engagement of retired Railway officers as consultants against vacant posts. This directive, issued via a circular dated August 29, applies to all zonal railways and public undertakings.
The Board's re-engagement scheme is set to be valid up to December 31, 2026. General managers are authorized to re-engage retired officers under 16 outlined terms and conditions, including a maximum age limit of 65 years. The scheme emphasizes that this re-engagement should not be seen as re-employment.
Compensation details specify a fixed monthly remuneration, adjusted by deducting the basic pension from the last drawn salary, with no increments or dearness allowance during the contract period. Retired officers will also be entitled to paid leave and transport allowances under certain conditions.
