Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, a key aviation hub in Europe, has committed to a 6 billion euro investment plan by 2029, marking the largest investment in its history.

This new financial commitment extends a previously declared investment of 3 billion euros aimed at renewing and maintaining the airport's infrastructure from 2024 to 2027. "Our infrastructure is the foundation of our service, but currently falls short of the quality we aim to offer our passengers," said Schiphol CEO Pieter van Oord in a statement.

For the year 2024, Schiphol anticipates handling between 65 and 68 million passengers and 470,000 to 473,000 flights. The Dutch government's prior attempts to cap flights at 450,000 to reduce noise were met with industry and EU objections. In December, Schiphol revised its capacity to allow for 483,000 flights in 2023.
