Mumbai's First Underground Metro Set for Inauguration

The initial phase of Mumbai's pioneering underground Metro Line 3, extending 12.5 km from Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex, is on the verge of operational readiness pending safety clearance. The project, part of a larger 33.5 km stretch, promises enhanced connectivity and efficient transport services in Mumbai.

Mumbai's first underground Metro line, spanning 12.5 km between Aarey Colony and Bandra-Kurla Complex, is nearing its commissioning phase, subject to safety clearances, a senior official announced on Tuesday.

This segment forms part of the expansive 33.5 km Colaba-Seepz-Aarey Metro Line 3. At a press conference, Ashwini Bhide, managing director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), confirmed the imminent launch, contingent on approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).

Bhide noted that the MMRC has received approval for the rolling stocks (Metro trains), while the rail line's application awaits consent. The stretch is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in early October, alongside several other state infrastructure initiatives.
