Indian Railways to Run 6,000 Special Trains for Festive Rush

Indian Railways will run nearly 6,000 special trains to accommodate over one crore passengers for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals. This initiative, an increase from 4,429 trains last year, caters mostly to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Additional general coaches have also been added to several trains.

In preparation for the upcoming festive season, Indian Railways has announced plans to operate nearly 6,000 special trains, aimed at facilitating the travel of over one crore passengers during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath festivals.

The routes to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are expected to experience the highest demand. This year, 5,975 special trains have been scheduled, a significant increase from last year’s 4,429 trains, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

To further accommodate passengers, Indian Railways has added additional general coaches to 108 trains and sanctioned the construction of 12,500 new coaches, which will be integrated over the next one to two years.
