IDFC First Bank has announced that CARE Ratings Limited has reaffirmed its 'CARE AA+ / Stable' rating for the bank's long-term debt instruments, amounting to Rs. 1,307.38 crore. This affirmation highlights the bank's solid capitalisation levels, bolstered by recent equity infusions totaling Rs. 6,200 crore.

The improved ratings reflect IDFC First Bank's growing scale of operations, with a strategic shift towards retail lending and away from legacy infrastructure loans. The bank is witnessing a promising increase in retail and current account savings account deposits, enhancing overall stability and reducing funding costs over time.

However, despite these strengths, IDFC First Bank faces challenges with comparatively moderate profitability and legacy asset quality concerns. The high cost-to-income ratio, mainly due to investments in its burgeoning retail segment and technology, continues to exert pressure on profit margins. Asset quality, especially in micro-finance, will require close attention.
