SpiceJet Expands Fleet Amid Fresh Capital Infusion

SpiceJet is set to enhance its fleet with the addition of 10 aircraft by next month; seven on lease and three reintroduced. The move comes after securing a Rs 3,000 crore investment, strengthening its financial position and operational capabilities in response to rising air travel demand.

SpiceJet, a domestic airline based in Gurugram, announced on Tuesday plans to expand its fleet by another 10 aircraft by next month. The first plane is scheduled for induction on October 10.

Of the new additions, seven aircraft will be acquired through leasing agreements, while three planes that were previously grounded will be reintroduced. As of October 8, SpiceJet operated 19 aircraft, with 36 grounded, reported according to Planespotter.net, a live aircraft tracking website.

This announcement follows SpiceJet's recent Rs 3,000 crore capital infusion via Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). Additionally, the airline will receive another Rs 736 crore from an earlier funding round, further solidifying its financial status. Agreements for all leased aircraft have already been signed with full integration expected by November 15, the company confirmed.
