India is projected to remain the largest growing economy in the world, with growth expected at 7% for the fiscal year 2024-25, according to Krishna Srinivasan, IMF Asia Pacific Director. Favorable rural consumption and declining inflation are key drivers, he noted in an interview with PTI.

Despite upcoming elections, Srinivasan highlighted that fiscal consolidation is on track, and India's macroeconomic fundamentals remain robust. However, he emphasized the need for reforms post-elections, particularly in labor laws, trade restrictions, and infrastructure development.

Addressing India's labor market, Srinivasan stressed the importance of implementing labor codes to enhance flexibility while maintaining social protection. He also advocated for investments in education and skills, addressing red tape issues, and supporting stronger employment opportunities, especially for women and youth.
