Local Boost: Dhanteras Sparks Economic Surge

This Dhanteras, traders across India are expecting an economic surge, with projections of Rs 50,000 crore in retail trade nationwide. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) reports a noticeable shift towards locally-made products, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' initiative. This preference for Indian goods has significantly reduced the sale of Chinese products typically associated with Diwali.

CAIT estimates that China's business losses could approach Rs 1.25 lakh crore, as Indian consumers increasingly support products from local artisans and cooperatives. MP Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the importance of backing local craftspeople, and plans are underway for demonstrations of solidarity, such as the purchase of clay items from Chandni Chowk artisans.

The 'Vocal for Local' theme will see increased advocacy in Delhi and other states, aligning with traditional Dhanteras practices. Popular buys include gold and silver, among other auspicious items. Markets across Delhi are witnessing a shopping boom, with jewellers ready with new stock. This festive season not only celebrates traditional buying rituals but also India’s artisanal heritage.
