An unfortunate incident at the construction site of the Patna Metro Rail claimed the lives of two individuals and left six others injured, authorities reported on Tuesday.
The accident occurred late Monday within a tunnel near the Patna University campus, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra.
Mishra explained that a pick-up van lost control inside the tunnel due to brake failure, resulting in the vehicle plowing into nearby construction workers. The deceased include the van's driver and a laborer, both from Odisha. While some victims are receiving treatment, one is critically ill in the ICU.
The district administration has instituted a three-member panel to investigate the cause of the mishap and propose safety measures. Allegations have surfaced about the absence of engineers or supervisors in the tunnel during the incident, although officials are yet to comment on this claim made by some eyewitnesses.
