HUL Completes Sale of Pureit to A. O. Smith, Boosting U.S. Firm's Market Scope

FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever Ltd announced on Friday the completion of its sale of the Pureit water purification business to A. O. Smith Corporation, a leading American firm. This transaction, greenlit by HUL's Board on July 15, includes the transfer of trademarks, copyrights, and various intellectual properties, along with associated assets and contracts to A. O. Smith India Water Products Private Limited.
Pureit, known for its broad spectrum of residential water purification solutions predominantly in India, is poised to enhance A. O. Smith's presence in the premium market segment. Kevin J. Wheeler, Chairman and CEO of A. O. Smith Corp, remarked on the acquisition, highlighting its strategic importance in scaling up and augmenting their premium water treatment portfolio and distribution network.
Initially launched in 2004 in Chennai, Pureit was designed to meet the needs for accessible and safe drinking water for the rapidly growing populations across South Asia. Sreenivas Narayanan, General Manager of Pureit, expressed optimism about the partnership's potential to deliver more advanced and reliable water purification solutions in response to evolving consumer demands in India.
