In a significant development, the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme reported an addition of 17.80 lakh new employees in October, according to provisional payroll data released by the labour and employment minister on Wednesday. The scheme, a cornerstone of social security in India, continues to expand its reach, providing essential benefits to employees and their families.
Furthermore, October saw 21,588 new establishments come under the ESI Scheme, extending social security coverage to a greater number of workers, marking a 3% growth in net registrations compared to October 2023. This increase underscores the growing reliance on the ESI Scheme as a comprehensive support system for laborers across the nation.
Analysis of the payroll data reveals that 47.75% of the newly registered 17.80 lakh employees were aged 25 or younger, highlighting the scheme's appeal to the younger workforce. Notably, female enrolment reached 3.52 lakh, while 42 transgender individuals also registered, illustrating the scheme's commitment to inclusivity and equal access for all members of society.
