Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday to discuss strengthening economic and defense ties between the two nations. The meeting, part of Erdogan's Southeast Asia tour, marked the inaugural High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council summit following their agreement during a meeting in Bali in 2022.
The discussions focused on regional and global issues, particularly addressing the conflict in Gaza. Erdogan reiterated his opposition to a U.S. proposal for Palestinian relocation and advocated for Israel's accountability in Gaza's reconstruction. The Turkish leader previously met Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, expressing similar views.
Erdogan and Subianto have expanded their countries' alliance, emphasizing defense cooperation and strategic fields. A 2010 defense agreement initiated collaboration on military technology, with future plans for joint military exercises and industry cooperation. Erdogan's visit encompasses trade, investment, education, and technology agreements, with a subsequent stop in Pakistan.
