European shares soared to new heights on Thursday, primarily driven by a surge in food and beverage stocks after Nestlé reported robust earnings. This rally comes amid optimism sparked by the U.S.'s initiative to engage in peace talks with Russia, concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The STOXX 600 index climbed 0.5% by 0813 GMT, setting a new intraday record for the sixth consecutive session. Germany's and France's benchmark indices also hit all-time highs, with notable gains of 1% and 0.9%, respectively. President Trump revealed that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are open to peace discussions.
On the corporate side, Nestlé's stock price increased by 6.5% after the company exceeded annual sales expectations, boosting the food and beverages index by 2.7%. The automobile sector also experienced a surge, with Michelin reporting a 5.3% jump in yearly results, and Siemens gaining 5.4% following a better-than-expected profit report.
