Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia, the Executive Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), has stressed the rising significance of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the future energy landscape. Speaking to ANI during India Energy Week 2025, Bhatia highlighted the company's strategy to utilize agricultural and other free wastes in producing Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG).
Bhatia detailed the chemical process through which waste is converted into methane, a form of natural gas. This methane can then be efficiently distributed via pipelines or used as fuel at IGL's vehicle outlets. He stated, "Garbage and free stock, like agricultural waste, are chemically treated to transform into CBG, which essentially is methane, enabling direct supply through a pipeline or our outlets."
In certain areas, CBG can also be converted into LNG where required, though Bhatia emphasizes the future focus remains on LNG. The India Energy Week 2025, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wraps up today and has quickly grown into the world’s second-largest energy event in a span of just two years.
