India and the United States are preparing to finalize a groundbreaking trade agreement that could dramatically increase bilateral commerce to $500 billion by 2030. The ambitious plan, set during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Washington, aims to cement multi-sector collaboration by fall 2025.
Key features of the agreement include boosting exports of industrial and labor-intensive manufactured goods, as well as agricultural products, between the two countries. The United States is incentivized by a roadmap to enhance trade ties, despite the prior stagnation of mini-trade deals under President Trump's administration.
Despite complex tariff landscapes, the two nations seek to eliminate barriers and increase free trade. A senior official has indicated the urgency to finalize the first tranche within eight to nine months. Meanwhile, trade statistics reveal the US as India's largest trading partner, with significant future growth potential and strategic advantages.
