The iconic Banjara hotel, located in the upscale Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad, faced a temporary closure by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday due to unpaid property taxes. The GHMC had previously issued payment notices to this luxury establishment and several other properties in the city.
Following the shutdown, the hotel's management quickly contacted the GHMC and arranged a partial payment of Rs 51 lakhs against the outstanding dues of approximately Rs one crore. Officials confirmed that this partial payment facilitated the hotel's reopening.
By Friday morning, after the successful transaction, the GHMC officials removed the locks, allowing the hotel to resume operations. This action highlights GHMC's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with civic financial obligations.
