The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has unveiled provisional payroll data for December 2024, indicating a robust net addition of 16.05 lakh members. According to statistics from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, this marks a 9.69% increase in net payroll additions compared to November 2024.
Year-on-year analysis shows a growth of 2.74% from December 2023, signifying a rise in employment opportunities and an increased awareness of employee benefits, driven by EPFO's outreach initiatives. Approximately 8.47 lakh new subscribers were enrolled, registering a 0.73% growth over the previous year. The surge is attributed to burgeoning job opportunities and successful EPFO programs.
A salient feature of the data is the dominance of the 18-25 age group, with 4.85 lakh new subscribers added, representing 57.29% of total new additions in December 2024. The net payroll addition for this demographic reflected a 16.91% increase compared to November 2024, attributing to the trend of youth entering the organized workforce as first-time job seekers.
An interesting dynamic in the data shows that approximately 15.12 lakh members exited and rejoined EPFO, marking a 5.10% increase from November 2024, and a significant 25.76% growth from December 2023. This reflects job mobility and preference for transferring accumulations over final settlements.
Gender analysis reveals the addition of 2.22 lakh new female subscribers, a 6.34% year-over-year increase, while net female payroll addition reached approximately 3.03 lakh, up by 4.77%. This indicates a shift towards a more inclusive workforce.
State-wise, the top five regions accounted for 59.84% of net payroll additions, with Maharashtra leading at 21.71%. Other states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana, and Delhi also contributed over 5% each.
