Addressing concerns raised by committee members over US President Trump's assertions that India would significantly lower its tariffs, Barthwal cautioned against accepting such claims at face value. He stressed that India has yet to make any commitments in the ongoing negotiations, which aim to protect national interests.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also briefed the panel on geopolitical issues. He highlighted concerns over China's construction of a dam on the Brahmaputra River and the broader dynamics with Europe. As discussions progress, India seeks a 'mutually beneficial agreement' to enhance trade relations while safeguarding vital domestic industries.
