The demand for healthy and nutritious food in India has witnessed a staggering rise, as evidenced by a 60% year-on-year increase in e-commerce order volumes. Unicommerce, the e-commerce enablement SaaS platform, highlights that consumers are gravitating towards organic products, including pulses, spices, and plant-based snacks.
Tier-3 cities are driving this growth, with order volumes growing by 90% during the period from September 24 to February 25, compared to the same six-month timeframe the previous year. Cities like Kolar, Rohtak, and Sonipat have seen notable demand, while Tier-2 cities like Jaipur and Lucknow are also showing significant upticks.
Yash Sanghvi, Head of Supply Chain at The Whole Truth Foods, emphasizes the cultural richness of India's healthy food offerings. The report further indicates that legacy food companies are adapting their product lines to meet the new demand as tech-enabled brands swiftly respond to changing consumer preferences.
The growing trend towards healthier eating habits is attracting new market entrants. Kapil Makhija, MD & CEO of Unicommerce, notes that these brands leverage advanced logistics and tailored promotions for a streamlined shopping experience, proving adaptable to the evolving landscape.
