The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant update in its vehicle registration process, doing away with traditional booklets in favor of chip-enabled smart cards.
Part of the state's Digital UP Mission, this initiative is designed to boost document security, simplify administrative tasks, and offer greater convenience to vehicle owners, according to a government statement.
Smart card-based registration certificates (RCs) are expected to prevent fraud and duplication, while offering more durability and security. Embedded with microchip technology, these cards will enable instant verification of vehicle data by law enforcement and transport authorities, thereby modernizing the transport sector.
