Pakistan and the United States are set to accelerate talks on reciprocal tariffs in hopes of finalizing a trade agreement swiftly. In a recent virtual meeting, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick made strides towards strengthening economic relations.
The discussion focused on meaningful engagement in trade and investment, with both sides agreeing to technical-level discussions in the near future. This agreement aims to address Pakistan's $3 billion trade surplus with the US and a potential 29% tariff on its exports.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb, speaking at an event in Islamabad, emphasized the progression of the strategic partnership with the US and committed to maintaining economic reforms in areas such as taxation and energy.
