Haryana has become a significant player in India's startup landscape, ranking as the seventh-largest state with over 8,800 startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). This burgeoning ecosystem not only bolsters economic diversification but also underscores job creation in the region.
A noteworthy aspect of this growth is the empowerment of women entrepreneurs, with over 45% of startups in the state helmed by women, reflecting a strong focus on gender inclusivity. During a review meeting of the State Startup Ecosystem and Incubator Schemes, officials highlighted Haryana's substantial role in India's unicorn narrative, with 19 of the country's 117 unicorns originated from the state.
Haryana's business-friendly environment, combined with its easy access to skilled manpower and increasing investor interest, make it a vital contributor to national innovation-led growth. The state is enhancing its support infrastructure with 25 incubators in universities and 20 more in private and government sectors. Upcoming State Startup Policy 2022 schemes are expected to further solidify Haryana's position as a startup hub.
