An explosion at a pharma plant in the Pashamylaram industrial estate of Sigachi company claimed eight lives and injured 26 people on Monday, according to officials.
The blast occurred due to a suspected chemical reaction at a reactor, leading to a fire at the plant. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and announced financial aid for the victims.
Inspector General of Police V Satyanarayana confirmed that six bodies were recovered from the site, with two additional fatalities at a hospital. Rescue efforts involving several fire engines and personnel from NDRF and SDRF are underway to secure trapped workers.
