A technical glitch threw air travel into disarray across Britain on Wednesday, delaying and diverting numerous flights before engineers managed to restore the system.

The disruption stemmed from the National Air Traffic Service's control centre in Swanwick, southwest of London, where the issue compelled a temporary limit on airborne aircraft to maintain safety standards. London's Gatwick Airport reported an impact on outbound flights nationwide, while some inbound flights faced delays or rerouting.

This incident, not the first for NATS since its 2002 launch, mirrors a similar problem in August when a malfunction forced the manual processing of flight plans, causing widespread delays.
