Responding to concerns about the adequacy of a Passenger Reservation System (PRS) centre in Tamil Nadu's Perambalur town, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured the Lok Sabha that the existing facility meets the current booking volume demands.
Initially commissioned in January 2005, the PRS centre is located at the New Bus Stand complex in Perambalur and provides comprehensive services, allowing for both reserved and unreserved ticket transactions. Despite occasional requests for additional PRS facilities, the board evaluates such proposals on feasibility and commercial viability considerations.
In a significant technological advancement, the Railways have introduced the RailOne App, which permits passengers to book tickets from their mobile devices. This innovation extends the PRS convenience to users, facilitating access to reservation services without geographical constraints.
