Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the inauguration of three crucial metro routes in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in the city's urban development. The newly launched lines include the first-ever metro connection to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, promising to redefine the travel experience for millions of Kolkata residents.
The 13.61 km-long extension, covering the 'Green', 'Yellow', and 'Orange' lines, aims to alleviate the notorious traffic congestion on the city's roads. The Green Line's extension between Sealdah and Esplanade offers a seamless commute between Howrah and Sealdah in just 11 minutes, as opposed to the nearly 50 minutes by road.
In a historic development, the Yellow Line provides direct access from Noapara to the airport after 41 years, reducing travel time by half. The Orange Line's extension enhances east-west connectivity. Notably, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was absent from the launch, amidst claims of maltreatment of state migrants in BJP-ruled areas.
