India's maritime sector is making significant strides, positioning its ports among the world's most efficient, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the nation's replacement of outdated colonial shipping laws with modern legislation tailored for the 21st century.

Speaking at the Maritime Leaders Conclave during the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai, Modi emphasized the strengthening of state maritime boards and the integration of digital technologies into port management, underling over 150 initiatives launched under the Maritime India Vision.

These efforts have led to a doubling of port capacities and reduced turnaround times. Additionally, cruise tourism and inland waterways have thrived, with cargo movement increasing by over 700 percent and operational waterways expanding remarkably.
