Delhi's Inflation: Shifting Trends in a Metro's Economy

A recent report from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics highlights how inflation in Delhi compared to other metros and the national average. While fuel and light costs dropped significantly, sectors such as food & beverages and housing saw rising inflation rates.
The report analyzed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) across 15 major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Notably, Kolkata witnessed the highest increase in CPI for 2024-25 at 3.6%, closely followed by the all-India average.
Delhi's inflation, as reflected by the CPI, oscillated between 1.7% and 8% over the past few years, with varying impacts on housing, fuel, and miscellaneous categories such as medicines and education.
