The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken serious action against IndiGo, serving show cause notices to CEO Pieter Elbers and Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras, calling for explanations on widespread flight disruptions. The airline has faced significant cancellations and delays over five consecutive days, causing inconvenience to many passengers.
The DGCA has pointed to major shortcomings in planning, oversight, and resource management as causes for these operational failures. Elbers and Porqueras have been asked to respond within 24 hours, according to sources familiar with the matter. The issue primarily stems from inadequate arrangements to accommodate new requirements for the airline's Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) scheme.
A high-level meeting led by Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, along with senior officials, was convened to assess the situation on Saturday. Authorities have indicated further actions against IndiGo will be based on the outcomes of the inquiry committee's findings.
