Vietnam's telephones exports to the U.S., particularly smartphones, plunged to the lowest levels in over five years, fueled by trade uncertainties and diminishing consumer demand, according to recent data. While smartphones are tariff-exempt, ongoing trade tension cast a shadow over Vietnam's shipments, notably impacting Samsung Electronics, a leading exporter.
November saw Vietnam's telephone exports to the U.S. drop to below $410 million, hitting a record low since May 2020 and marking the fourth consecutive month of decline. This downturn reflects annual reductions in production since August, despite earlier rebounds owing to tariff exemptions.
Roaring exports in the year's first half balanced Vietnam's flat year-on-year export performance. Samsung remains pivotal, lacking disclosed figures but shaping trends with its substantial share of Vietnam’s exports. Diminished consumer sentiment led the company to adjust its production and export strategies.
