In a significant development for India's aluminium industry, Vedanta Aluminium announced the expansion of its Lanjigarh refinery in Odisha, increasing its capacity from 2 million to 5 million tonnes per annum. This strategic move elevates the country's total alumina capacity to nearly 13 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), positioning India as the world's third-largest alumina producer.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, stated, "Scaling our Lanjigarh operations to 5 MTPA is both a capacity milestone and a step toward a resilient, world-class aluminium value chain." Kumar emphasized that the expansion underscores Vedanta's commitment to responsible resource development, innovation, and long-term value creation.
Further highlighting the company's robust growth, Vedanta achieved its highest-ever monthly alumina production of 254 kilotonnes (KT) in November, signifying an 8 percent month-on-month increase and a remarkable 68 percent year-on-year growth. The expansion journey, which began in 2020, positions Vedanta as a key player in the global market.
