Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), a state-owned engineering giant, announced on Thursday the supply of semi-high-speed underslung traction transformers for the Vande Bharat sleeper train project from its Jhansi facility.
BHEL described the supply as a major achievement in its 'Make in India' initiatives, solidifying its strategic position in the semi-high-speed propulsion sector, capable of operational speeds up to 160 kmph and design speeds of 180 kmph.
The Vande Bharat project, executed by a BHEL-led consortium alongside TRSL, sees its traction transformers dispatched to Kolkata for the final assembly. Additionally, new traction motors, developed by BHEL's Bhopal unit, enhance the firm's charge into advanced railway technology.
