Air India is set to enhance its Mumbai-Frankfurt route with the deployment of its first custom-made Boeing 787-9 aircraft, starting February 1, 2023. This introduction signifies a significant addition to Air India's fleet since the Tata Group's acquisition in January 2022.
The airline currently operates five weekly flights on this route and is poised to strengthen its presence through a codeshare agreement with Lufthansa. This partnership will facilitate seamless travel for passengers onward to 29 destinations across Europe and select locations in North and South America.
Despite its financial challenges, Air India plans to expand its wide-body fleet by adding five more aircraft, including A350-1000s and additional B787-9s, this year. The company has already placed orders for a substantial number of aircraft, comprising 350 planes from Airbus and 220 from Boeing.
