An onion-laden truck veering out of control claimed the lives of three individuals and left two others seriously injured near Jakhauli village, according to police reports on Friday.

The disaster unfolded on National Highway 27 under the Ait police station in Jalaun district when a front tyre of the truck burst, leading the driver to lose control, explained Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar. The vehicle, en route to Kanpur, sharply diverted, hitting five pedestrians along the road, resulting in the immediate deaths of two women and a man, while two suffered severe injuries, added Kumar.

Authorities have identified two of the deceased as Maya Devi, 46, from Jakhauli, and Laungshri, 45, from Usargaon. The identity of the third deceased remains unconfirmed, though police suspect he may be the truck driver. Meanwhile, the injured, identified as Bandana, 18, and Arman, were taken to Orai's government medical college with stable conditions. Following the mishap, onion sacks were strewn across the highway, temporarily stalling traffic until order was restored. Law enforcement officials have seized the truck and launched an investigation into the accident.
