The Italian navy is set to deploy the Federico Martinengo frigate to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus as tension escalates in the region. This move is part of a European mission that includes France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
The decision follows an incident earlier this week when an Iranian drone targeted a British Royal Air Force base in Cyprus. The attack was a response to a recent joint operation by the U.S. and Israel against Tehran.
According to an Italian navy spokesperson, approximately 160 crew members will be aboard the vessel, which will embark from Italy by Saturday, marking Italy's strong commitment to regional security and cooperation.
