Leap for Rural Innovation: Karnataka's New Agri-Tech Hub
The Karnataka government has partnered with Krishi Kalpa Foundation to open a Centre of Excellence in Kalaburagi. This initiative, under the Local Economy Acceleration Programme (LEAP), aims to foster innovation in agriculture and allied sectors, enhancing technology adoption and entrepreneurship in rural communities.

On Monday, the Karnataka government entered a pivotal partnership with the Krishi Kalpa Foundation, paving the way for a Centre of Excellence in Kalaburagi. This centre, focusing on agriculture and related fields, is set to stimulate rural innovation through the Local Economy Acceleration Programme (LEAP).
The agreement, signed by the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), targets a five-year, Rs 1,000 crore initiative to spur economic growth beyond Bengaluru's boundaries. It aims to establish a dedicated hub for research, entrepreneurship, and technological advance, centered on rural development.
With the NGO Krishi Kalpa Foundation at the helm, the Centre will support varied activities including startup support and capacity-building, aimed at transforming the region into an agritech innovation powerhouse. This initiative promises significant benefits for local innovators and the agricultural value chain, according to IT Minister Priyank Kharge.
