The cooperative ride-hailing service Bharat Taxi is set for nationwide expansion, according to statements made by the government on Wednesday. The service will extend to all major cities and talukas within the next two to three years.
Minister of State for Cooperation, Krishan Pal, addressed the Rajya Sabha on Bharat Taxi's impact on job creation. He emphasized how the platform empowers drivers and increases their income through a user-friendly mobile app, which ensures security and transparency. Significantly, the app has been integrated with Delhi Police to enhance passenger safety.
The service currently operates in regions such as Delhi-NCR and Gujarat's Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka. With 4 lakh drivers registered thus far, the cooperative aims to further boost employment opportunities. It was launched by Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and is backed by prominent co-operative organizations, including Amul, setting a precedent as the first cooperative-run ride-hailing platform in the country.
