Maharashtra is on the verge of becoming a global leader in the data center industry, with the state set to achieve this position within the next three years. At the 7th CII Datacenter Blueprint Summit 2026 in Mumbai, Jaykumar Rawal, Maharashtra's Minister for Marketing and Protocol, FDI, Diaspora Affairs, and Outreach, emphasized that the state is already at the forefront of the digital economy. He remarked, "In three years from now, Maharashtra would be one of the world leaders in data centers." This promising growth is driven by substantial international investments and a focus on developing the state into a global powerhouse for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.

The Minister further elaborated on Maharashtra's current status in the industry, noting that the state already accommodates a significant portion of India's data center infrastructure. He pointed out, "So now, 50% of India's data centers are in Maharashtra." Under the leadership of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra has entered into approximately 80 MoUs valued at 30 lakh crores, fostering an environment conducive to global investment in the data center landscape.

Addressing the energy demands of these facilities, Rawal underlined the transition towards renewable energy sources. He stated, "To establish a major data center hub, a significant amount of energy is essential, necessitating a shift towards renewable and green energy." He highlighted solar power's critical role, noting its importance for operational efficiency in data centers. This strategic pivot aligns with the nation's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, ensuring energy self-sufficiency.

Regarding Maharashtra's geographical advantages, Rawal mentioned the "Golden Triangle" comprising Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik. He observed, "AI companies prefer operating from Mumbai, the financial capital; accordingly, data centers should be situated nearby." The presence of submarine cables provides essential connectivity, further enhancing the infrastructure supporting these AI ecosystems.

Amid concerns over LPG shortages stemming from regional conflicts, Rawal reassured, "There is no need for alarm; arrangements are in place. Under CM Devendra Fadnavis' leadership, strategic planning for the next 100 days is active." He noted that hoarding isn't necessary due to adequate supply management.

On the global stage, Rawal addressed the Indian diaspora and geopolitical conditions, acknowledging that while global conflicts remain outside India's direct control, the country offers a stable and secure investment landscape. He stated, "If you possess energy, technology, and knowledge, India is the optimal destination. Globally, India stands as the most secure and safe environment now."
