The freight performance was supported by a 4.56% rise in wagon numbers, underscoring the increasing demand for reliable and efficient rail-based logistics solutions from key economic sectors. The ministry noted the growing reliance on railways for bulk commodity transportation.
Key sectors driving this growth include fertilizers, with a 13.49% increase, and steel at 13.11%. Zone-wise, South Western Railway saw the highest growth, followed by North Central and East Coast regions, emphasizing ongoing infrastructure development across India.
