In a significant push for transportation improvements, Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil has called upon the central government to introduce an express train service connecting Bengaluru and Vijayapura. The demand comes on the heels of the completed 9.60-km double-line railway stretch between Alamatti and Wandal, now operational since March 25.

The Minister's office released a statement on Wednesday outlining Patil's communication to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister V Somanna, dated March 30. In his letter, Patil emphasized the completion of the Alamatti–Wandal section as part of the larger Gadag–Hotgi double-line project, marking a key milestone that could enable this service.

Highlighting the plight of commuters, Patil noted the thousands traveling from Vijayapura and Bagalkote districts to Bengaluru daily for education, healthcare, and business. Currently, the 15-hour journey necessitates reduction, which could be brought down to 10 hours with timely intervention. Patil also urged limited stops for routes departing from Bengaluru and emphasized routing through Hubballi and Gadag bypass lines.
