In a significant development for the travel industry, FitsAir, Sri Lanka's private airline, is introducing direct flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo starting May 15. This new route is expected to drastically reduce travel time and increase tourist influx from Gujarat to Sri Lanka.
The flights will operate thrice weekly, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, offering a non-stop air link that will cut journey time to approximately three hours. This is a substantial improvement from the current nine to ten hours travel time involving layovers.
Industry leaders believe this direct connectivity will double the number of tourists visiting from Gujarat. The airline, part of a larger tourism partnership, is offering travel packages that include flights, hotels, and local experiences, making it accessible through both bundled packages and standalone ticket options.
