Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) announced on Thursday that it has set an unprecedented record by handling 91.17 million tonnes of cargo during the fiscal year 2025-26. This marks the highest throughput in its 92-year history, surpassing the previous best of 82.62 million tonnes recorded in 2024-25.
Chairperson M Angamuthu expressed optimism for the port's future, stating the belief that VPA will achieve over 100 million tonnes in the fiscal year 2026-27. The chairperson credited this exceptional performance to increased volumes of petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL), iron ore, and fertilizers.
The record achievement is further attributed to improved turnaround times, reduced berth delays, and faster vessel handling. Infrastructure advancements such as berth modernization and storage expansions were key factors, along with enhanced navigation systems that supported 24-hour operations at the port.
