Normalcy Restored: Shalamcheh Border Crossing Reopens
Following airstrikes that resulted in an Iraqi casualty and five injuries, the Shalamcheh border crossing between Iraq and Iran is now operational. This crossing is vital for importing vegetables and food supplies from Iran to Iraq, and any prolonged disruption could impact local markets.
Passenger movement has resumed at the Shalamcheh border crossing between Iraq and Iran after it was temporarily closed due to airstrikes that claimed the life of one Iraqi citizen, according to security sources and the state news agency.
Shalamcheh is a significant route for importing vegetables and other food supplies from Iran to Iraq, making any extended closure a serious concern for local markets. The strikes resulted in five serious injuries and disrupted traffic on the Iranian side.
Authorities report that, just hours after the strikes, the border crossing with Kuwait at Safwan was also momentarily stopped due to reported explosions on the Kuwaiti side, with drones reportedly sighted before the blasts occurred.
