Railway Board Calls for Swift Medical Aid for Newborns Without UMID Cards

The Railway Board has prompted railway chiefs to prioritize emergency medical treatment for newborns of employees without Unique Medical Identity Cards. Recognizing past challenges, the board emphasizes a compassionate approach and highlights the instant issuance of UMID cards through the Health Management Information System for seamless healthcare access.

The Railway Board has directed the Principal Chief Medical Directors from all railway zones to prioritize emergency medical care for newborns of railway employees, even in the absence of a Unique Medical Identity Card (UMID). The UMID, a smart medical card, facilitates access to healthcare services for railway workers and retirees.

Challenges in obtaining the UMID for infants were highlighted during recent interactions between employees and the administration. The staff raised concerns over the delay in accessing medical services for newborns lacking the card, prompting the board's recommendation for a more humanitarian response in emergencies.

The board stated that newborns could instantly receive UMID cards through the Health Management Information System (HMIS). However, it urged officials to circumvent any procedural delays by providing necessary medical services to infants in urgent need, ensuring swift care without bureaucratic hindrance.
