China Condemns US Sanctions on Hengli Petrochemicals: A Diplomatic Standoff

China has criticized the United States for imposing sanctions on Hengli Petrochemicals, a Chinese refinery, for buying Iranian crude oil. The U.S. measure restricts the company's access to the U.S. financial system. China's Foreign Ministry urges a halt to these practices, citing them as unlawful.

China has voiced strong opposition to recent U.S. sanctions aimed at Hengli Petrochemicals, a notable refinery located in Dalian, northeastern China. The sanctions, announced on Friday, target the company for its involvement in purchasing Iranian crude oil.

This move by the United States effectively bars Hengli Petrochemicals and other firms transporting Iranian oil from accessing the U.S. financial system. The sanctions have intensified tensions as China remains Iran's largest oil customer.

Lin Jian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the sanctions, rejecting what China considers illegal unilateral measures. China has urged the U.S. to cease its practices of sanction abuse and to respect international law.
