In a significant financial triumph, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a key player in the electronics components sector, announced a remarkable 40% surge in its first-quarter profits, reaching 280.6 billion won (approximately USD 189 million). This result, showcased on Thursday, impressively exceeded analyst expectations set at 271.5 billion won (approximately USD 185 million), as reported by The Korea Herald.
The commendable increase in earnings is largely attributed to the heightened demand for advanced semiconductor substrates, crucial for AI accelerators, marking the strongest growth in Samsung Electro-Mechanics' current business endeavors. Revenue hit 3.21 trillion won (USD 2.19 billion), a 17% jump from the previous year and a beat against predictions of 3.09 trillion won (USD 2.10 billion).
Despite incurring a one-off retirement-related expense of 71.4 billion won, the underlying profit potential remains robust. Excluding this charge, the operational profit could have approximated 352 billion won. The company’s Package Solutions division, manufacturing flip-chip ball grid array (FC-BGA) substrates, exhibited the highest growth, with a 45% rise in sales to 725 billion won (USD 494 million). The broader market reflected this growth with Samsung's stock doubling over the past month.
